AES GANA 230kV Transmission Project
Design, supply and installation of underground and overhead 230kV power lines. The lines transmit the power produced by the new LNG power plant owned and operated by Gas Natural del Atlántico (GANA). The project consisted of a section of 7 kilometers of underground cabling and 15 kilometers of overhead lines.
The underground cable was installed via horizontal directional drilling (HDD) technology. The overhead lines were installed in both steel posts and lattice structures in order to adapt to the difficult terrain. Terminals riser poles were supplied and installed to transition from underground to overhead lines. The overhead power conductor is ACCC type with a composite core and the undergound portion is of XLPE type, all of which were spliced and terminated by Celmec. The lines also carry fiber optic communications.
The civil works included earth works for riser pole stations, foundations, manholes, control building, and drains.
All of these works were tested and commissioned by our own personnel and subcontractors. A line partial discharge monitor is permanently installed.
