Tocumen International Airport Expansion Project
For the Tocumen International Airport expansion Celmec was awarded contract for the design, supply, erection, civil works, testing and commissioning for a 115kV gas insulated substation. The project consisted of a new substation, expansion of the existing substation, 4 kilometers of 115kV underground power line, supply and installation of 42MVA transformers, switchyard equipment and a 15kV metal clad switchgear to supply the entire new airport terminal. The scope of work also included protection control and communication as well a new SCADA system.
Within the civil works scope was the construction of the switchgear and control building as well as the foundations for the transformers and gas insulated switchgear. Horizontal directional drilling (HDD) was employed to connect to the utilities substation. Four bridges, with spans of up to 6 meters, were designed and installed for cable crossings over creeks.
